[ music | Seaweed - Start With ]

It's unlaughable now, no, it's not okay. You knew you were screwing us both over anyway. I wish I could laugh but my laugh's tapped out, cause I sat alone as you worshipped your wallet, 'setting a course' or whatever you call it. Start with another person you can juggle, another sidekick for your show. Hang it over my head, it's my only home. Motivated by cash but I'll tell you you're not alone. Just down the street to the first café - they've got the cash and now look what it's bought them - new hair and ass but their souls are all rotten. A one-way trip wherever you go, together, whatever, I am not your accomplice, and I felt things you'll never know. Recover your losses and let go. Just a few square feet in a block of shame and the way that you act I'm now guessing you'll remain. So I'll leave you the key and it's all been done, this island was bought for a handful of trinkets - look at it now, at its best they could sink it. You were right, I got too close to your shadow, you were right, now I'm all packed, forget that you know me.

Man, how could they have one really fantastic song like "Start With" amidst such an altogether crummy album? Jerks.

My day in bite-sized portions [01 Aug 2006|07:10pm]
[ music | Afghan Whigs - True Love Travels on a Gravel Road ]

1 hour of sleep
"Because sometimes people hide stolen merchandise in the fridges?"
8 hours of paperwork
poutine = indigestion
eyestrain/headache
"Why would someone steal two Meatloaf CDs?"
pleasing telephone conversation
BMW spinning through the air on fire: A Joel Silver production
ham & eggs for dinner

Current Mood: Human interaction for the day is officially closed.

[ music | Heatmiser - Mock-Up ]

I got a job at Future Shop, starting Tuesday morning. Cool, cool. I will be working in the entertainment section and I get commissions for selling gaming systems.
I'm kinda shocked at how quickly I got that job. I applied on Wednesday night online, they called me yesterday afternoon to schedule an interview for today at noon, I got home and an hour later, they called for a second interview at 4:30, and then I was hired. Must have done something right.
So uh, woo hoo, and so forth.

Dear Shaw:
It sucks when my e-mail service mysteriously craps out all day and your site can't tell me anything. So get with it. Jackasses.

Sincerely,
Jared.

PS: Being back to work sucks. Anyone wealthy out there want to sponsor me?

TALES! OF! INTEREST! [13 Jun 2006|12:31pm]
[ music | Isolée - Bleu ]

So here are a few things you people out there might be interested to know

HAY OWEN! I HAVE YOUR TRIPOD TOP! It was lodged under stuff in my car, it seems.

I frickin' graduated university! The ceremony was not bad, although the speech the speaker chap made was pretty lame and quoted a bunch of apocryphal quotes like that Bill Gates '386k oughta be enough for anybody' and I wanted to get up and shout "HEY! MOST OF THOSE QUOTES ARE URBAN LEGENDS! DO YOUR RESEARCH, MR. PROFESSOR GUY WITH THE ROBES!" but it's best that I didn't because when I went to kneel in front of the podium, I missed my hat and fumbled and looked kinda silly. Anyway, I got a cool pin 'and that has made all the difference' - Robert Frost

I fuckin' well quit McDonald's! Handed in my two weeks' notice this very morning! YES! The managers were visibly saddened and there were actually tears shed (not mine though wheeeeeeeeeeee). I concluded my notice as follows:
As of two weeks from now, I will no longer be an employee here, and you'll all probably be much better off without me (right?).
VIVA LA REVOLUCION!
Regards,
-jared shopa (Agent 002)
And also, I opened with a 'Dear sirs and madames and sirs and madames', so anyway. That was good times an' I'M OUT I'M OUT I'M OUT I'M OUT I'M OUT! WOOOOOOO!

Anyway, had a wooooonderful couple weeks with Katie and I'm totally exhausted from not sleeping, not eating, being very active, and having the flu or something. In Vancouver we took a very very wrong turn and ended up walking through the 0 through 1000 blocks of East Hastings where we saw all manner of frightening things, then we went to a really good pseudo-hip-hop show (someone find me a copy of Kytami's CD! She rocked the house! HIP-HOP VIOLINIST! HOW FUCKIN COOL IS THAT!? I found a site that sells it but their PayPal isn't working grrrr - download some tracks at www.myspace.com/kytami - killer stuff). But yeah, great great vacation, so great that I had to quit my job because I realized just how much I couldn't bear the thought of it anymore. From what I understand, I can probably get on at HMV next month too (score!).

Life is good

My current music recommendations: The new Sonic Youth is very mellow but still interesting, The Dresden Dolls: Yes, Virginia is really fabulously awesome and anyone who likes Wilco needs to look into Loose Fur's Born Again In The USA, which is a collaboration between Jeff Tweedy and Jim O'Rourke (formerly of Sonic Youth). Oh, and support the local scene and check out Sunset Rubdown (well, not local, they live in Montreal now, but they started here, back before Spencer joined Wolf Parade).

Know what sucks? Spider bites.

But what's worse is when there's a big stinger that stays in.

And then you dig it out with nail clippers and tweezers and it's like an inch long and it leaves a deep open wound on your chest and then you work for eight hours three days straight in a hot horrible uncomfortable sweaty environment and it gets all infected and you have this horrible wound on your chest that looks like a third-degree burn and attracts lint like nothing else and additionally you're sick as a fucking dog and still have to work another eight hour day before you'll be able to relax.

Well, anyway, it's not something I would recommend to anyone.

PS: OWEN - Sorry I couldn't make it tonight. I was at work and also direly unwell. Hope you had a grand ole opry.
Time. Grand ole time. See you on Sunday.

I should probably eat something, since man should not survive on coffee alone.

Work sucked today so I skipped eating at all and drank a lot of gin instead. Feeling better about things on the whole, really.

People (in general) - we should do stuff. I have a peculiar Sunday through Tuesday three-day weekend. So ring me up.

An assortment of random [21 Apr 2006|08:21pm]
[ music | B. Fleischmann - From To ]

Owen: Do you have my Okkervil River CD? I can't find it. Also, where might I find your guys' wedding registry? I'm too lazy to do a lot of research on my own as we are all well aware.

Silent Hill: A grave disappointment. Half a scary movie and half a movie that's just dull and violent is not what I was looking for. Still, it's better than any other video game movie. So congratulations or something.

Turner Classic Movie Channel: Still the greatest thing in the world. Clash of the Titans!? I mean honestly.

McDs: I've been there five years now. They gave me a pin with a diamond in it. *twirls finger in air indicating a tiny circle*

Vladimir Nabakov: What's with you and incest? Seriously.

Grapes of Wrath: I can't decide if the movie is depressing or inspiring, but Woody Guthrie and Bruce Springsteen have written songs about the main character and Henry Fonda rules all. Shame about Jane though.

And finally, some albums this year that most of you have not heard but should:
Destroyer: Rubies
Neko Case: Fox Confessor Brings The Flood
The Advantage: Elf-Titled
Appleseed Cast: Peregrine
Hamell On Trial: Songs For Parents Who Enjoy Drugs (including a song called "Coulter's Snatch")
Built To Spill: You In Reverse
Liars: Drum's Not Dead

One of the TC headlines this morning was 'Twenty years ago three teenage boys discovered infant in a gym bag'.
The first thing to cross my mind: "INFANT IN A GYM BAG! THE CRAZE THAT'S SWEEPING THE NATION!"

You Are 68% Evil

You are very evil. And you're too evil to care.
Those who love you probably also fear you. A lot.

68% isn't much, the people who wrote the test just weren't inventive enough.

Ha ha-ha ha-haaaaa, I'M DONE MY ESSAYS FOR THE YEAR! JUST PRINTED OFF THE LAST ONE! I'm graduating in two months time! Also I've been very excited to find out I get Turner Classic Movie channel, so I can spend the next two months watching old movies and not getting anything done at all.

Jared's big gripe of the day:
I had that big stupid residential schools essay that I handed in last night, and today I get a call that one of the books, that I took out literally a week ago was overdue. I had to pay a two-dollar fine because some asshole recalled the book the day I took it out. Man, I hate people so much.

Also, I desperately want this book but none of the sellers will ship to Canada, the bastards.
